A man with a last known address of Camden was arrested in Belfast Friday morning, Aug. 15, following in an investigation that started from an approximate 3:40 a.m. call to 911. A man in a white panel van was offering people $100 dollars if they got into his van, according to the Belfast Police Department.

Officers immediately responded to the area and began looking for the vehicle, according to Chief Bobby Cormier. As officers arrived on the scene, they met with witnesses who said that their friend, a young female, just got into the van. They further reported that she had been sexually assaulted by the driver.

Officers then observed the white van matching the descrition pull out of a parking lot on Front Street and stopped it.

“After further investigation, Officers believed the driver was operating the van under the influence of alcohol and located a minor female seated in the back of the panel van matching the name and description given to them by the witnesses,” said Cormier. “At that point, the officers placed the driver under arrest.”

Arrested was Thomas Massey, VI, age 42, with a last known address of Camden, Maine.

The defendant, Thomas Massey, was charged with the following:

  1. Operating under the influence of Alcohol
  2. Criminal Restraint
  3. Unlawful Sexual Touching
  4. Furnishing or allowing consumption of alcoholic beverages by certain persons prohibited

The van used in this case was Maine Commercial Registration number 2D 1709, a white Ford panel van with a white roof rack, black rims and bicycle rack mounted over the back doors, the release said.

This case is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming. If you have any information about this case or this individual, you are asked to contact the Belfast Police Department at 207-338-2040.
