Public auctions are the most common way of selling tax-defaulted property. The auction is conducted by the county tax collector, and the property is sold to the highest bidder.

Pursuant to California Revenue and Taxation Code (RTC) section 3700.5, the county tax collectors are required to notify the State Controller’s Office “not less than 45 days nor more than 120 days before the proposed sale.” Additionally, RTC section 3702 requires the tax collector to publish the intended sale three times in a newspaper of general circulation within the county, at least three weeks prior to the tax sale.

Lassen County Announces Public Auction for Surplus Vehicles

The County of Lassen is holding a public auction for a variety of surplus vehicles. The auction is open to all interested parties, with opportunities for public viewing before sealed bids are accepted.

Viewing and Bidding Information
Vehicle Viewing: The public can view the vehicles today, August 21st and tomorrow, August 22nd, from 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. The viewing will be held at the Lassen County Sheriff’s motor pool facility at 1405 Sheriff Cady Lane, in Susanville.

Bid Forms: Bid forms and a complete list of vehicles can be found online at www.lassencounty.org. You can also pick up a bid form in person at 221 S. Roop St., at the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office at 1415 Sheriff Cady Lane or at the vehicle viewing site during viewing hours.

Submitting Bids: All bids must be submitted in a sealed envelope clearly marked “Surplus Vehicle Bid.”

Bids will be accepted at the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, located at 1415 Sheriff Cady Lane, Susanville, CA 96130, and must be received by Tuesday, August 26th, at 12:00p.m.

All bids will be publicly opened and read at the same address at that time. The County of Lassen reserves the right to reject any and all bids.
